We are selling this fine, original, late 1962 Mercedes-Benz Type 300d (W189), equipped with a well-running, fuel-injected 3.0L M189 engine, and a 4-speed manual transmission and manual steering.
This vehicle came to us through Paul Russell & Company of Massachusetts, who serviced and maintained it for many years.
The chassis number identifies this as one of only 45 300d sedans produced in 1962, prior to the cessation of hand-built Type 300 production and the shift to mass production methods for all vehicles in the consumer class.
The paint, upholstery, wood, and brightwork are original. It is equipped with a manual transmission and manual steering, suggesting that it was originally in livery service, perhaps as part of a corporate executive fleet. The factory central lubrication system has been removed and individual grease fittings installed.
Each Type 300 automobile represents over 1,000 hours of skilled labor, to produce a car that is at once luxurious, well-mannered, and capable of holding its own amongst modern traffic.
